Of all the asphalt shingle types, 3- Tab shingles are the most affordable to install, but due to their organic-mat paper base, they are much thinner and tend to wear out more quickly than architectural shingles. They come in multiple colors and have a typical lifespan of 15 to 20 years.

Architectural Shingles

Architectural Shingles are much more common than 3- Tab Shingles. They are also significantly more durable and thicker, and even give off a more stylish, sculpted look due to an extra laminate layer on each shingle. Coming in more luxurious looking styles, homeowners will find that choosing Architectural Shingles over 3- Tab Shingles give them many more options in color and design. Though they are a little more expensive, they can last up to twice as long as 3-tab Shingles, with a lifespan of 30 to 50 years.
